Counselling is time set aside by a client and a therapist to discuss what brought you to therapy. This might include talking about past, present or future life events, relationships, feelings, emotions, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. It helps you clarify the issues, and identify the right course of action to resolve or cope with them.
Hypnotherapy brings your subconscious mind to the fore and allows this deeper seated, more instinctive force to reconsider how you think and react. Working through the power of your own subconscious, hypnotherapy enables you to alter and improve aspects of your thinking and behaviour so you can overcome problems and become more positive and effective in your day to day life. See the frequently asked questions for more information.
Hypnoanalysis is a free association technique sometimes used in hypnotherapy to allow you to uncover subconscious material from the past and effect positive change. It enables you to root out the causes of whatever issue is concerning you, release the emotion around it and achieve a solution to the problem.
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a tool for improvement, using neurology and thinking patterns (Neuro), ways of expressing thoughts and their influences (Linguistic) and patterns of behaviour and goal setting (Programming). It works on the premise that doing something consistently well or consistently badly is not an accident but a process. By changing the mind’s internal maps we can produce rapid change in how we think and behave. It is a very practical bank of techniques that can be used in combination with hypnotherapy or on its own.
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a technique that is used to free up the flow of energy in your body and mind and remove any blockages that may be stopping that energy running smoothly. It is a little like tapping a water pipe when you have a blockage to remove the blockage and release the flow.
Tapping is done on a range of acupuncture points whilst focusing on the problem and the emotion around it. The aim is to acknowledge the emotion behind each aspect of the event and to understand and ultimately defuse the concern for it. The process then goes on to affirm a positive mindset around the past event so that you can put it in context and move on from it.
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence based form of psychotherapy used to relieve the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other stress related issues. It reduces the long lasting effects of distressing memories by engaging the brain’s natural adaptive information processing mechanisms.
